Overall, this class has taught me many things especially with some baking skills I never thought I had and that not everything will come out perfect. In addition to that, I realized that practice is the best outcome in order for something to be perfect. One thing I learned is that baking has a lot of math and if the math is not right for measuring ingredients, the final product will be different. One skill I mastered is my communication skills especially with my baking partner. If I did not master it, my partner and I would be getting same ingredients or doing the same steps if we did not communicate. Luckily, this class taught me how to improve it resulting to a great partnership. Also, I learned that some recipes are too hard and it really takes a lot of practice to master it. For example, the pie crust was difficult for me to make it in a way and kneading bread doughs is no joke at all. It really takes patience and a lot of time which I kind of lack in. Lastly, with the circumstances we are facing right now, school was shut down. This pandemic made me realize that I have great organizational skills even back when we had school but never realized it. With this skill, I not only planned my schedule for baking accordingly but also with my other classes. The skills I learned in the class will help me in the future as I enter a new chapter of my life this upcoming Fall. I am very thankful and grateful that I took this very fun and informative class. Thank you Ms. Siverson for everything! Here's the conversions!

For this final project, I decided to make a filipino dessert called leche flan! I chose this recipe because I want to represent and show to everyone that my country offers some delicious desserts as well. Its very similar to Spanish flan. It was pretty straightforward making it however I had a time separating the egg yolk and whites. It took about 50 minutes to bake in the oven and it came out perfectly. However the "caramel" (which was basically the white sugar melted) was stuck into the small pan and was kind of difficult and had to ask my mom for help. Overall, it was really sweet but very good according to my parents! Here are some pictures of the progress and the final product. Here's the recipe ! Yesterday was mother's day so I decided a little bit of cleaning in the fridge. However, I could not really clean it throughly because my mom does not like when other people re arrange the fridge and clean it. She hates when my dad and I re arrange it because the fridge is basically her territory and if someone cleans it and not her, she will be so mad. So I decided to just to organize a bit and clean it a little bit that satisfies her and she won't get mad since I did not do such changes and cleaning. For her, her job is to do thorough cleaning and I do small cleaning. My fridge is pretty small so it was easier to organize and clean. Here are pictures of the fridge! Today I made some sourdough popovers! It was really good and I paired it with cinnamon topping. Very sweet and tasty. I think one mistake I did was not putting cupcake tins on the oven on first hand since it said on the instructions of the recipe. Since I still have leftover sourdough starter I might explore more recipes or even bake this recipe again! Here's the recipe! Also here's the final product!
Last Sunday, I started my sourdough starter! It was a pretty simple recipe since it only required water and flour! Since Sunday I have been feeding it everyday till yesterday which was Day 4. Today is Day 5 and it doubled the size however, it was still gooey and did not have a sour smell to it so I decided to store in the fridge first and I will see tomorrow what will happen. I felt like I made a mistake of adding too much water at one point or flour. Here are pics of the starter from days 2-5. Here's the recipe! This term is one of a kind and I will probably remember that my senior year of high school is one of the most memorable. In terms of whats happening, I'm doing fine. To keep me busy, I've been exercising, doing some stress baking, walk around the neighborhood sometimes to get some fresh air and of course binge watch shows on Netflix and Disneyplus. I've been bored a lot but I know we can get through this. I was doing some inventory on some ingredients today so here's the list!
This is our baking day before the break! Today we made some filling and delicious cinnamon swirl muffins. I had the task to do the filling while my partner did the dough. One mistake we made is that we added too much water on the icing and we did not spray too much oil on the pan. We baked them for about 15 minutes and it turned out golden brown at the end. Once we ate and put the icing it was very warm and yummy. Here's a picture of the final product.
Here's the recipe Last class we made something savoury thats why today we made something sweet called the swedish pastry. My partner was responsible for making the filling and I was responsible for making the pie crust. Both my partner and I made some mistakes. My mistake was that I think I added too much water when making the crust. My partner made a mistake of adding the eggs while the element was still on which caused the eggs to be scrambled. We still kept it however, it tasted like purely egg. We had to bake it for about 45 minutes so while waiting, my partner made the topping which was really good because of the almonds! Also forget to mention we made a new filling and it turned out fine. Here are some pics of the pastries. Here's the recipe
Last class, my group made some delicious naan bread but I was absent. This class, we cooked them! First we had to roll them out and the texture was very cold. We rolled them out and while doing that, I preheated the pans. It took us so long to cook them mainly I feel like because it came out from the freezer. Also, we put butter in the pan but we realized we should not have since it makes the bread cook slower. It took us the whole class to cook it but it was very worth it in the end. I always loved naan especially with curry! Here's a slideshow of the process of cooking the naan breads!
Today we made some cinnamon doughnuts! Since we made a savoury treat last class so Ms. S decided to make a sweet treat! It was a very simple recipe once again. We had to separate the liquids and dry ingredients and pour the liquid into the dry ingredients after all ingredients are mixed in. I will post the recipe soon as soon the baking blog updates. We baked them for about 25 minutes. When we got it out, it looked like it was not cooked but in reality it was. We dipped them in cinnamon sugar and it was very delicious and not to sweet! I would totally also make this at home. Here's a slideshow of our baking progress today! |
